This puja helps to remove the snake fear among the natives as well as clear the hormonal disturbances in the body. People suffering from Kaal Sarpa Dosh (when all the planets are placed between Rahu and Ketu in the kundli) can get rid of their malefic effects by this puja.

Snakes and serpents are worshipped in our Hindu Mythology due to the fact that during rainy season when the snakes come out of their holes, there were chances of deaths due to snake bites. So this puja was performed to gratify the serpents and prevent snake bites (evils of the society). An auspicious day for snakes, when the entire clan of snakes was saved by Ma Mansa Devi from becoming extinct due to the Sarpa Satra Yagna, performed by rishi munis as per the order of King Janamejaya. Naag Panchami Puja is a way to please Naag Devta and seeking his blessings for protection against harm from snakes. Digging of field and ploughing is avoided on this day, as earth is the habitat of the snakes. So to fulfil the desires and eliminating the ill effects of Kaal Sarpa Dosh in the kundli, this pooja is performed.
